《Weekends DC 2016》Jul 31, DGS Delicatessen and Farmer’s Market in Dupont
On Sunday July 31st, we had Brunch with friends at DGS Delicatessen at Dupont Circle, and later we went to the farmer’s market.
Brunch is something that I got accustomed to after I came to DC.
As I remember, having brunch was not that big in Japan. We would go for lunch with friends in the weekends but not brunch. I think not many restaurants offers brunch menu.
After spending one and half years in DC, now I love weekend brunch culture of DC.
It is a good way to catch up with friends or to spend quality time with partner.
Also, as a foodie and someone loves cooking, it is so much fun to explore good brunch places, and learn brunch dishes.
Here is the brunch place I went to on July 31st :
DGS DELICATESSEN
(1317 Connecticut Ave NW, Washington, DC 20036)

Nothing like starting the morning with perfect cup of coffee.
As I am pregnant, I only can drink decaf coffee, but I am little hesitant to order decaf coffee because it doesn’t taste good in some places.
Still I was so wanting to drink coffee, so I ordered one, and it turned out that their decaf coffee was really good. Had a good nutty flavor, and it was just perfect for my morning feeling.
This is Reuben Fries, fries topped with house cured pastrami and sauerkraut and thousand island dressing.
This was not in the brunch menu (they offer in the lunch), but we ask if they can make it and they made it for us! Yay!
If you like fries with toppings definitely you should try this.
Challah French Toast.
It looked beautiful, and tasted beautiful as well.
I didn’t know Challah bread is so good for french toast. They were crispy on the outside, and has soft and nice texture inside.
Breakfast Club Sandwiches.
It was corned beef with fried egg, potato latke, swiss cheese, and hollandaise.
It has a big amount of corned beef, and on top of that, egg yolk was melting and so good.
After filling my stomach with good foods, we went to Farmer’s Market at Dupont Circle.
I didn’t know that Farmer’s Market there was so huge. It uses several blocks of streets, and were filled with so many good products.
Fresh tomatoes smelled so good.
The smell of it reminded me of the tomatoes I ate at my grandma’s vegetable field.
When I was a kid, almost every summer, me and my family used to go to my grandma’s place in a country side of Niigata prefecture. We helped(or were just playing?) at her vegetable field, and when we got tired, we often picked tomatoes and ate them there.
Tomatoes here smelled so fresh, and they were just like the ones I ate freshly picked at my grandma’s field.
Peaches!
It is the best season for peaches now, and there were quite many shops selling peaches.
The best of them was these white peaches!
The white peaches here were much bigger than the ones you saw in the stores, and you can smell the sweet peach smell from the outside.
I was always wanted to eat good peaches like the one we get in Japan (white peaches are the most popular peach in Japan), and I was so happy that finally I found them here!
Mushrooms.
Green beans, my hubby’s favorite.
and flavored vinegars.
Their sweeter flavors are even good to use as a drinks.
Here are all the vegetables I got from the farmer’s market.
Oyster mushroom, green beans, sweet corns, white peaches, tomatoes, bitter melon and Okra.
One of the Okra was so huge. Almost the size of my face!
I bought 2 flavored vinegars, Black Locust Vinegar and Honey Vinegar, to drink with sparkling water. They are so refreshing and really good, especially after coming back from the hot weather.
sometimes I add some fruits and make it like a cocktail.
My favorite combination is Honey Vinegar and sparkling water with grapefruits.
Simple cooking is the best for fresh vegetable.
Butter sautéed oyster mushroom, boiled sweet corn, and stir fried bitter melon with sesame oil.
That was all about my Sunday of July 31st.
The vegetables and fruits at the farmer’s market was so good, and I can’t wait to go back there again.
