Photolog: Nagamachi Bukeyashiki

After we left the 21st Century Museum, we headed to Nagamachi Buke Yashiki area.

Buke Yashiki means residences of Samurais.
This was the area where middle to upper class Samurais of Kaga domain had resided in Edo period(1603-1868). Today, the properties and houses around this area is privately owned, and local people are still living in this historical site.

As they are local people’s housing, it is up to them whether to maintain the old housing or rebuilt. So, the area is kind of mixture of old Buke Yashiki styles and modern residences.
